Collaboration and Grant-in-aid for Digital Humanities Projects
The Department of English is collaborating with Techl33t Infosystems Pvt. Limited, a company working on Digital Transformations, for building an open-access online course on the history of English Literature and for creating a custom-made app for speech enhancement.
Techl33t has provided the Department with a grant-in aid (high-end computer and other accessories) and will collaborate with the faculty as we try to harness the data and patterns of humanities with the forces of technology, in order to create new platforms for students and non-native speakers of English.
Digital Humanities is a term used for areas of scholarly research and development at the intersection of computing technologies and the humanities disciplines. At a time when the printed word is getting lost in an ever-increasing ocean of digital content, Digital Humanities make new kinds of teaching, learning and researching possible.
Under the broad umbrella of Digital Humanities, Techl33t and the Department of English, RKSMVV, aims to:
An easily comprehensible course on the history of English literature, from the Old English to the Modern and Postmodern Period, the course is especially planned for students who are unable to access the contents and language of the extensive books on the subject that are found in most college libraries.
A pilot project on the Romantic period is underway. At a later stage, the project plans to involve faculties and students from multiple collaborating colleges and educational institutions.
Currently, the app is in a beta-testing phase. The students of the Department are the testers for the app.
